It'll Keep

"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is fixed on You, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, For the Lord God is everlasting strength." Isaiah 26:3-4

I shared this verse in my last blog and it has continued to be my anthem for the last six weeks. I'm constantly putting this verse back in the forefront of my my mind.

It's easy to let life get you bogged down.
To-do lists are never ending.
Kids are constantly calling your name.
There seems to be meetings for this thing, that thing, and the other thing.
Responsibilities become overwhelming.
You feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Many of these things might not feel unfamiliar.
Many of these feelings have been familiar to me over the last several months.

It's a lot. It's heavy. Overwhelming sometimes doesn't begin to describe it.

But, I have good news. It'll keep.

The last four things on your to-do list. They'll keep until a later date.
The meeting that you tried to squeeze in, but just can't make it work. It'll keep.
The pile of laundry waiting to be washed. It'll keep (at least as long as you have clean underwear!)
That one errand that you need for that one project you want to do. It'll keep.
That aforementioned project. It'll keep.

When we pour and pour ourselves out for our jobs, for our families, for others...it's draining. We empty our cups. It doesn't make any of those things bad. We should be pouring ourselves out for others...but there's a balance! If there's anything that has hit me harder in the last few weeks it's that you can't pour from an empty cup. It's empty!

We HAVE to take care of ourselves. We have to fill our cups up!
If you're cup isn't getting refilled, you're going to run yourself into the ground.

One my biggest cup fillers!
Set up time with Jesus during the day. He is the Ultimate Cup Filler. Let Him fill you with His words of Truth. Sit and listen to worship music and just praise Him. Let Him keep you in perfect peace. Fill your cup.

Start that workout program that's been sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Start that meal planning. Start fueling your body with the good stuff. Fill your cup.

Do that project we talked about earlier. Maybe the craftiness and creativity of it actually is just what you need to take a break and relax. Fill your cup.

Cancel that meeting and spend time with your kids. Fill your cup (and theirs!)

Take that nap. Fill your cup.

Make time to talk to your daddy on the phone. Fill your cup.

It's okay. All those other things that you feel like "aren't getting done," -- it'll keep.
You are important. You can't be your best self if you aren't taking care of you. You can't be the best teacher or friend or parent or boss if you aren't filling up your cup.

Life is rough. That's life. But we don't have to let the stress and emotions and responsibilities control our lives. It's a lot easier to deal with things when you're fueled and and filled up.

Right now I feel the best and the happiest that I've been in several months. Because I'm learning that it'll keep.

Our cars don't run on E and neither should we.

Take care of yourselves friends!

All the love,
Caitlin
